Skilled Visas
Skilled visas are designed for individuals or families with valuable skills who want to move to Australia permanently. They help fill gaps in the workforce where there aren’t enough local workers.
Basically, these visas are part of Australia’s migration system that brings in people with specific skills the country needs. Depending on your situation and qualifications, skilled visas can be either temporary or permanent.
Types of Skilled Visas in Australia

Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
You need a nomination from an Australian state or territory
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)
For working in regional areas
Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa (Subclass 191)
For those who’ve lived and worked in regional areas on eligible visas
Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)
You’re sponsored by an employer for permanent residency
Training Visa (Subclass 407)

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

Occupation Lists – What You Should Know
There are two important occupation lists that matter when applying:
- MLTSSL (Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List): Jobs on this list are in high demand and come with more visa options, including permanent residency. You can also be sponsored by an employer.
 - STSOL (Short-term Skilled Occupation List): These jobs still have opportunities but usually require sponsorship from an employer or a state. They come with fewer visa options than the MLTSSL

Temporary vs Permanent Visas
Some skilled visas let you live in Australia temporarily, while others offer a pathway to stay permanently. Often, you can start with a temporary visa and then apply for permanent residency later.
